Temperate Fruit Trees under Climate Change: Challenges for Dormancy and Chilling Requirements in Warm Winter Regions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Adequate chill is of great importance for successful production deciduous fruit trees. However, temperate trees grown under tropical and subtropical regions may face insufficient winter chill, which has a crucial role in dormancy productivity. The objective this review to discuss the challenges chilling requirements trees, especially warm regions, climate change conditions. After defining dormancy, effects on various parameters are described. Then, breaking chemicals organic compounds, as well some aspects mechanism breaking, demonstrated. this, relationships between delineated challenging conditions environments Experts have sought develop models estimating order improve adaption environments. Some these their uses described final section review. In conclusion, global warming led deficit during winter, become limiting factor near future growth tropics subtropics. With increasing rate change, improvements managing tools (e.g., discovering new, more effective compounds; breeding climate-smart cultivars solve problems associated with requirements; improving forecasting models) potential tree growing regions.

Climate Change Affects Winter Chill for Temperate Fruit and Nut Trees

BACKGROUND Temperate fruit and nut trees require adequate winter chill to produce economically viable yields. Global warming has the potential to reduce available winter chill and greatly impact crop yields. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We estimated winter chill for two past (1975 and 2000) and 18 future scenarios (mid and end 21st century; 3 Global Climate Models [GCMs]; 3 greenhouse gas e...

Climate change and infectious disease: helminthological challenges to farmed ruminants in temperate regions.

In the UK, recent mean temperatures have consistently increased by between 1°C and 4°C compared to the 30-year monthly averages. Furthermore, all available predictive models for the UK indicate that the climate is likely to change further and feature more extreme weather events and a trend towards wetter, milder winters and hotter, drier summers. These changes will alter the prevalence of endem...

Biotechnology of temperate fruit trees and grapevines.

Challenges concerning fruit trees and grapevines as long lived woody perennial crops require adapted biotechnological approaches, if solutions are to be found within a reasonable time frame. These challenges are represented by the need for correct identification of genetic resources, with the foreseen use either in conservation or in breeding programmes. Molecular markers provide most accurate ...
